Frozen gutters slow down the process of getting rid of water. Freezing gutters can also cause ice dams. In turn, ice dams weigh down your gutters and can cause them to crack and/or fall off. Here are some things you can do to prevent your gutters from freezing:
- Try salting your gutters: Take some sodium chloride and spread it in your gutters. It will help to prevent ice from forming.
- Clean your gutters: Remove any debris that is in your gutters. Leaves can clog your gutters and back up water and cause it to turn into ice.
- Check your roof insulation: Roof insulation helps to melt snow and ice quickly which prevents water from overflowing your gutters.
